Inspiration

Dr Virginia Apgar (1909-1974) is most remembered by the scoring system she invented in 1953 which proved transformative in infant survival.

Appearance, Pulse Grimace, Activity, Respiration.

Virginia graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1933, one of only 9 women in her class of 90 students. After completing a surgical residency, she chose to follow a career in the relatively new and increasingly complex specialty of Obstetric Anaesthesiology. In 1949 she became the first female professor in the University’s history.

Virginia’s life-long passion was the pursuit of better maternal and infant healthcare. As well as her tremendous invention of the Apgar Score, Virginia realised that many drugs could cause foetal malformations. She travelled around the USA raising awareness of this.

In 1964/65 Virginia witnessed the devastating result of the Rubella Pandemic as tens of thousands of babies were born deaf and blind. She subsequently campaigned tirelessly for the Rubella vaccination to be adopted globally.

Painfully aware of health inequalities, she worked closely with a charity to fund prenatal care for at-risk and under-served communities and provide intensive care for premature babies. The “March of Dimes Foundation” continues to work to end preventable preterm birth and infant death.

What a beautiful bag with great compartments and even padlock to lock the inner compartment if you desire. Area for laptop and paperwork as well. Great size and love the fact can carry by hand or like a back pack. So much more than a normal doctors bag and cannot wait to use it everyday as a GP. It arrived very well packed and storage bag as well. My new favourite bag 😀, well done 👏

This is such a beautiful bag. This is my first proper doctor’s bag. It is the perfect size and has got several compartments with different sizes. There is a compartment for a laptop also and comes with a padlock. I am in love with this bag and can’t wait to start using the bag. Thank you Catherine for the amazing bag xx

Amazing and spacious bag – also not too heavy to carry around and can fit all the equipment you require during your OOH shift. Beautifully designed and packed. Will highly recommend to my friends.

Absolutely fabulous bag. When it arrived it felt like Christmas and birthday had come together :) High quality make. Came nicely packaged. Feels sturdy and stylish. Lots of compartments. Easily fits my work laptop in to the laptop compartment with padding. Backpack straps means that I can carry it on my back when I have other things to carry in my hands. When just carrying by hand the backpack straps can be tucked away out of site. Absolutely fabulous. Hopefully in the future this bag is available in a range of colours.

This bag is simply stunning!! I cannot believe the quality, and attention to detail-it’s very obvious that it’s designed by a fellow GP as there are compartments for everything! So stylish, I cannot wait to use it.

Had my eye on this bag for a while and could not resist it with this amazing Boxing Day discount! Beautiful and stylish bag. Very well packaged. Loads of room and will keep me organised. My rubbishy old lap top bag I’ve been using for visits has just been made redundant! Time for a GP glow up! Thank you Catherine!
