Inspiration
Dr Mae Jemison (1956 – Present) is a Physician, Engineer and former NASA Astronaut. She was the first African American woman to travel into space! On top of all that, she was a talented dancer.
During her medical career Mae worked as a GP in the Peace Corps as a Flying Doctor in Liberia and Sierra-Leone. She also provided medical services in a refugee camp in Cambodia.
Unfortunately, Dr Jemison faced significant racial prejudice during her childhood and felt that there were too few female black role models that she could identify with. Now she is determined to use her success to aid and encourage students of ethnic minorities to become interested in science and achieve their dreams. Her not-for-profit organisation, named after her mother: the Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence, fosters a love of science and technology and encourages social change. Mae fervently campaigns against health inequality and she has written several books for children featuring strong inspiring women from around the globe.

Amazing doctor’s bag, I wish they had come out earlier. I have found my Mae bag beautiful, functional and ethical. I love that my bag is easy to carry on public transport and I can distribute the weight on both shoulders. The design is impeccable inside and out, it carries all of my daily medical equipment neatly in pouches and has compartments for purse, phone, keys and other necessary items. Go for the quilted version, it is very pretty!
